Changelog for 4.2

Build 923 (4.2.2), Oct 12 2026

More iPhone Duo tweaks and general bug fixes:

Timeline & Scheduled

  • Unrolling Free Time on Timeline expands future shown free times until rolled back up.
  • Selecting on the Timeline now properly shows selection buttons below.
  • Calendar events now show in Scheduled even with the Timeline beside the Agenda.
  • An overnight event that starts on the previous day now leads the day it ends on instead of sinking to the bottom.

Subtasks

  • Swipe left on a subtask to select it, like other tasks.
  • While selecting, tap subtasks to add them. On Mac, ⌘-click and ⇧-click work too.

Other

  • Lots of small layout tweaks to close/confirm buttons to make them work correctly on Duo.
  • Better moon representation for landscape theme (also, now it orients properly for north/south hemisphere :).
  • Daily layouts: the Agenda always uses the Daily Design you pick in Theme.
  • In landscape on iPhone, a Timeline at the top of the column starts below the bar.
  • Lists: the bookmark, pin and Reminders icons sit together in one capsule, with info tip when tapped.
  • Day Review: Someday shows every shelved task, even from lists you've switched off.
  • Weather: today's Daybook stamp shows the current temperature.
  • Themes: a custom light theme can pair with a different dark one again.
  • Snooze leaves repeating reminders out, so snoozing today can't move the whole series.
  • Journal: moving an entry to an earlier day shows that day right away.
  • Lens: fixed padding problem when larger fonts engaged.
  • Share Day in Lens is unavailable when on the Timeline.
  • iPhone: the Hear Summary player no longer gets hidden by a list's minimap.

Build 922 (4.2.1), Oct 10 2026

Small build: nicer sheets on iPhone and iPad, better Reschedule times, and fixes.

  • Sheets now use the standard iOS toolbar with the system close button (on Duo it moves to the side strip).
  • Reschedule: Later today starts with Now, and habits and markdown tasks get the same times. They're placed on the Timeline at that hour, with Undo.
  • Placing a Someday task on the Timeline for today brings it back off the shelf.
  • Task rows show the time before tags, so times line up down the list.
  • Planner pill: months read OCT over 2026, centered in the cell.
  • Journal: tapping the map with no located entries now tells you why nothing opens.
  • iPad: the collapsed tab bar no longer shows a second Notes item.
  • Headings with subtasks no longer show a checkbox.

Build 921 (4.2.1), Oct 10 2026

iPhone Duo polish, more layout tweaks (Lists tab is getting some attention) and fixes:

Lists

  • Nicer layout for the whole tab
  • Sublists indent under their parent again.
  • New Someday smart list with everything on the shelf. Shelved tasks no longer show in Overdue, Due Today, This Week and the other date lists.
  • Swipe right on a shelved task for Today to bring it back.

Timeline

  • Tasks, reminders and habits get a checkbox on their blocks, so you can complete them without leaving the Timeline.
  • Toggling a calendar in Lens or switching Solo updates the Timeline right away.

Subtasks

  • Drag a subtask to another day, the Planner or the Timeline to make it a task of its own there (Undo puts it back).
  • Drop a subtask among another group's subtasks to move it there, or reorder within its group (Broadsheet too).
  • New Move Out of Group in the context menu, and as a swipe in Daybook.
  • iPad: dropping a task above a group reorders it instead of nesting it. Tasks join a group only when dropped among its expanded subtasks.

Mac

  • Notifications: the Mac app asks for permission again and schedules alerts.
  • Desk Clock Mac optimizations CPU.

iPhone Duo

  • Notes, Lists and Yearly lay out on either side of the hinge.
  • The face toggle in Daily stays tappable when Duo is closed.

Other

  • Planner pill shows better month browser.
  • Planner alignment fixed on iPad.
  • Habits and Markdown Tasks now also get timed Reschedule options in long-press menu.
  • Daybook's day number changes width with the date to fit better.
  • Forecast on a future day shows that day large, the way today does.
  • Compact Broadsheet respects putting Tasks above Scheduled.

Build 918, Oct 8 2026

Likely the last build before 4.2 goes to the App Store, mostly fixes with a couple of hidden treats :)

Date Browser

  • The day pill from iPhone replaces the week strip on Mac, iPad and iOS 18, in Daily and the Planner (weeks and months). Yearly keeps its highlights bar.
  • Mac: swipe with two fingers to browse days, or right-click the pill for Choose a Day.
  • Mac keyboard: Previous/Next Page (⌥⌘←/→) and week jumps (⌃⌥←/→) now move the Planner by a week or month instead of jumping to Daily. ⌘T brings the Planner back to today.

World Clock

  • New layout: each city as its own ticket-shaped clock, with temperature and weather. Off by default for now, turn it on in World Clock options.
  • Long-press a clock to edit your World Clocks.
  • The Desk Clock now follows the selected World Clock city's time zone.

Weather

  • Forecast can show as postage stamps (off by default for now), and you pick how far ahead it looks: next 8 or 24 hours, or 3, 5, 7 or 10 days. Long-press the forecast for its options.
  • Forecasts on future days are implemented for Daybook.

Other

  • Day's note: Return on a second blank line finishes the note, and Return at the very top adds a line instead of finishing.
  • Onboarding cleanup (thanks for the feedback).
  • Share Day images no longer show yellow tiles over task rows.
  • Mac: task notes and markdown notes grow to their full height instead of collapsing into a small scrolling box.
  • Apple Watch: fixed crashes when syncing habits with the phone (builds 914–917), and faster launch.

Build 917, Oct 7 2026

A couple of quick fixes before public beta:

  • The day picker in Daily and in the Planner stays expanded after you pick, instead of folding away after a few seconds.
  • Task Editor and New Task: cleaned up Start/End time editors to fit better.

Build 916, Oct 6 2026

A quick update before beta goes live tomorrow:

Daily Workspaces

  • iPhone in landscape, and Duo's book, laptop and closed-landscape poses, now start with the Desk Clock and Timeline beside the Agenda until you change them in Layout.
  • Duo lying flat in portrait keeps the companion beside the Agenda, like an iPad.

Timeline

  • Companion Timelines show the whole day again and scroll to the current hour, instead of starting at it. The same goes for the full Timeline, after rotating, and on every turn of the hour.
  • Tap and hold the hour rail to add a New Task at that time. Handy on the Desk Clock's narrow mini Timeline.

Follow the Day

  • Turn on a World Clock city and the landscape follows it: its time of day, and its sunrise, sunset and moon.

Other

  • New users now open the Planner on the Weekly Spread.
  • Sheets use the round checkmark to close, like the rest of iOS.
  • iPhone Duo: the day's title sits over the Agenda, clear of the companion, and no longer truncates when closed.
  • Layout on Duo: section Settings chips go icon-only so section names fit.

Build 915, Oct 5 2026

This is a big iPhone Duo-focused build that will benefit all platforms, including a nifty landscape support for iPhone (yay), and better drag and drop between sections, with Undo.

Daily Workspaces

  • Each screen setup (iPhone portrait and landscape, iPad portrait and landscape, Mac, each iPhone Duo pose) can keep its own Daily layout: just Agenda, Timeline + Agenda, and new Clock with Timeline + Agenda. Just edit Layout when device in that orientation and it will stick.
  • Pick the companion in Layout from page thumbnails: Timeline, Desk Clock, or both.
  • Long-press any Daily section header to jump to Layout.
  • On today, the companion Timeline starts at the current hour. Tap Zoom in its corner to grow it into the full Timeline, Unzoom to shrink it back.
  • Mac now also gets the same companion beside the Agenda once the window is wide enough.

iPhone Landscape

  • iPhone now rotates to landscape! The tab bar becomes a small rail in the bottom corner, next to the day pill (inspired by Duo :)
  • Broadsheet keeps its compact title in the bar.

Desk Clock

  • New: what's on now and the time left in it, or the countdown to what's next, with today's compact Timeline beside it.
  • Tick the checkbox to complete, +15 to push it 15 minutes / Snooze.
  • If an event runs into the next item, the clock hands over to that item when it starts.
  • iPhone Duo: turn on Desk Clock when propped open in Layout to get it on the top half in laptop pose.
  • The Countdown Live Activity now counts to the end of whatever is running.

Timeline Drag and Drop

  • Dropping a task on the Timeline now sets its time (with Undo) instead of penciling it in. Habits and markdown tasks, which can't hold a time, still get penciled.
  • Drag from the Timeline back to the Agenda to take the time off, or drop on a section header to give it that section's time.
  • Drop timed events onto other days, and multi-selections come along on same-day drops.
  • A free gap that's already underway now reads "5m left" instead of "5m free".

Undo in the Day Pill

  • Undo notices now appear alongside Day picker.
  • Clearer notices when needed: "Moved to Tuesday", "Removed from the timeline", and no notice for plain reorders.

Day Review

  • Now full screen, with Done in the toolbar and different layout.
  • Swipe left on a task you've added to send it back where it came from: Consider, its original day, or undated again. With Undo.
  • Fixed the Pick a Day sheet coming up blank on the first swipe.

iPhone Duo

  • Laptop pose: tapping New Task opens the New Task sheet, since the keyboard would cover inline fields.
  • Journal's book pose puts the day's rule right on the hinge, and the Weekly spread's pages sit on either side of it.
  • Stacked Daily + Timeline panes run to the hinge and fade into it.

Lens

  • Ribbons now show how busy the rest of the day is, so they thin out as the day goes on.
  • Calendar chips show hours left today.
  • Calendar sheet: your Default calendar is pinned on top, and the Solo explanation is clearer.

Other

  • Forecast now shows on future days too (when data available).
  • Habit details, About and other paper-style sheets now open as standard sheets, with their tabs as a page picker, as the old tabs were not Duo friendly.
  • Planner Yearly: fixed the grid shifting sideways after changing Reduce Motion, text size or appearance.
  • Daily section cards no longer stretch while you swipe a row.

Build 914, Sep 30 2026

More iPhone Duo work: A new Weekly Timeline mode for Planner, and new day navigators for Planner. And Notebook Lens icon variant is now properly live in the app, just tap on its preview to switch (I'm not 100% sold on either, let me know what's your favourite).

Weekly Timeline

  • New Timeline style for Weekly in the Planner: one week per page, with a column for each day. The day's hours sit on top and its remaining tasks below.
  • Drag tasks up to give them time, down to take the time off, or across columns to move it to another day.
  • On iPhone Duo with the fold across the screen, the columns split on the hinge, and Duo can sit on your desk like a little laptop as you browse your week.

Planner

  • The bottom day bar from Daily now controls Planner too: weeks in Weekly, months in Monthly. Tap and hold for the calendar, same as Daily. Yearly keeps its highlights bar.
  • Planner headers have been slimmed down too, since the pill now tells you the week/month in question.

Day Review

  • Day Review now splits on the Duo's fold: your day plan on the top screen, Consider on the bottom.
  • Daily stacked above the Timeline now splits on the hinge instead of below it.
  • Fix for unfolded portrait layout.

Other

  • Day Review: the day plan slides with the masthead when flipping between Today and Tomorrow, and plan times no longer wrap.
  • Hide past events in Scheduled options is now off by default.

Build 913, Sep 29 2026

Some more iPhone Duo work and overall improvements:

Lens

  • New Solo, Tasks and Habits switches at the top of Lens. Turn Tasks or Habits off to hide them across Daily, the Timeline and the Planner. A dotted circle on the ring tells you something is hidden.
  • Calendar chips show the hours booked for the day (or the Planner's week, month or year). All-day events no longer count toward how busy a calendar looks.
  • Tap the new Lens preview for Show Count, which draws the number of tasks and habits left in the ring's centre, in your Journal font.
  • You can also check out the alternate Lens graphic: Notebook. Keen to hear opinions :)
  • Solo no longer draws a person badge on the mark.
  • Tap and hold a calendar to peek (right-click on Mac).

Notifications

  • Complete, Remind in 10 min and Remind in 1 hour buttons now work on task and habit notifications (on iPhone they were missing entirely).
  • New Remind until done in Settings -> Notifications: Off, Habits, or Tasks and Habits. Finalist nudges you again every 5, 10, 15 or 30 minutes, up to 6 times, until you check it off. Will need tweaking, let me know.

Updates to New Task and Task Editor

  • Start and End rows replace the duration menu. New times default to the next whole hour.
  • Tap the length pill beside End for common durations, or the pill beside Start for Later today slots.
  • Delete now sits at the bottom of context menus.

Daily and Timeline

  • Switching between Agenda and Timeline now crossfades.
  • Tapping the Daily time strip flips to the Timeline (it used to open a new task).
  • iPhone Duo: Daily beside the Timeline keeps its own section order and visibility. It follows your regular layout until you change something there.
  • Plan My Day's Apply / Clear controls move into the floating day pill on iPhone, where they were hidden before.

Scheduled and Events

  • New Hide past events switch in Scheduled options (on by default): today's finished events drop off Scheduled and the Timeline.
  • Calendar events beside the Timeline have their own switch, off by default.
  • Show event end is now a menu: Hide, Duration ("1hr") or Time ("until 10p"). Broadsheet shows it too.

Other

  • Broadsheet: reorder reminders inside the Reminders well. The order matches Daybook.
  • Section headings and notes in Daybook and Broadsheet no longer lift like tasks when you long-press them.
  • Tags section: a tag disappears once everything carrying it is done, instead of lingering as 0/3.
  • Calendar Bookmark bar is off for new installs (Lens replaces it). Existing setups don't change.
  • Some Mac cleanup.

Build 912, Sep 27 2026

The Assistant button is now Lens: a pinwheel showing active calendars and how busy each one is, for each day. Looks great on Duo, but makes regular iPhones better too. Tapping it lets you toggle calendars AND tags, and access Smart Assistant options. This lets users disable both Tags section and Calendar Bookmark bar (which doesn't work well on iPhone Duo). A bonus is that Lens is active for both Daily and Planner tabs, making it way more useful than the old features.

Lens

  • Each coloured ribbon is a calendar the day shows, fuller and longer the busier that calendar is (up to eight shown). Solo mode is shown as a person badge, with focused tag showing in the centre. On the Planner the ribbons describe the week, month or year you're looking at.
  • Tap the icon to open the Lens popover to goggle visible calendars or active tags. Press and hold calendar pill for What's Next.
  • You can now also hide Tags from this list and Daily section: Tag pages get "Show Tag in Lens".
  • Planner follows Lens in every mode, Yearly included. The Planner Filter button and its multi-tag / list / calendar filter are retired.
  • Calendar toggles should be much faster now, on Bookmark bar too.

Calendars sheet

  • Organize Calendars: categories are a scrolling strip at the top (Active, Bookmark Bar, Solo, Notify, then the rest) in place of the index-tab menu.
  • Solo now also hides subscribed calendars' events in Daybook and Broadsheet's all-day strip and in the Tags counts.

Timeline

  • Improvements to placing tasks from parking lot to the timeline.
  • Fixed Undo popover on iPhone/iPad.

Reminders

  • Repeating reminders: Convert is now Duplicate As (Task, Event), copying the shown occurrence. Converting used to delete the whole series in Reminders.
  • Outstanding: moving repeating reminders in bulk reschedules them. It used to complete the occurrence and clone a one-off.
  • Events with a Zoom or Teams link in Location show a meeting link, not an Open in Maps row.

Journal

  • Past months load their completed tasks and health on demand, so older days with completions but no written entry no longer vanish. The month menu lists months that only have completions.

iPhone Duo

  • The Agenda / Timeline toggle sits centred on the margin rail, now with animation.
  • The full-screen Pencil canvas now places Unzoom button into vertical strip strip.

Other

  • Reschedule now works properly on tasks inside Lists.
  • Handwriting Pencil pages get faint ruled lines.
  • Day picker: today is accented.

Build 911, Sep 25 2026

Lots of internal rewiring: Timeline is no longer a tab but a mode of Daily; a bunch of toolbar cleanups to make the app look good both on regular iPhone and iPhone Duo; + lots more.

Timeline is now a mode of Daily

  • Daily has two faces now, Agenda (the list) and Timeline (the hour grid), on every platform. The reasoning is that Daily and Timeline were a lens onto the same day, not a different part of the app, so the Timeline tab is gone.
  • Flip between them: tap the day's title, tap Daily tab, pick Timeline / Agenda at the top of the app menu, or Cmd+2 on Mac. On iPhone Duo, it gets its own button (should come to other platforms too). Plan My Day still lands on the Timeline.
  • The Daily + Timeline pair works on iPad in portrait, not yet on macOS.
  • "Customize Layout" is now just "Layout".

Sample Content (TestFlight only)

  • For test devices only, do not use on primary phones: Settings -> General -> Sample Content: Load or Remove a demo persona (a week of calendars, lists, journal and habits). This feature fills up the phone with content, writes it to iCloud, Calendars and Reminders.

Timeline

  • The free-time pill on today counts free time until next event. A free gap that already passed drops the time.
  • Dragging a block shows its landing time in the gutter with a hairline across the grid.

Reminders

  • Moving a reminder to another day or time (Day Review, swipe, Reschedule, drag) now carries its alarm along, so the Reminders app shows the same date and time as Finalist. Let me know if you still see drift.
  • Sending a reminder to Someday clears its date in Reminders too, and Undo puts it back. Repeating reminders can't be undated, so they're no longer offered to Someday. Reschedule those instead.
  • Broadsheet on iPhone: reminders can be dropped into Morning, Afternoon or Evening. The Reminders section sits inside the day's list, where your section order puts it.

Reschedule

  • Snooze is replaced by "Later today": the next two quarter-hours, the next couple of full hours and about four hours on, each shown as the time it lands on. Slots past midnight are marked tomorrow. The watch's snooze uses the same grid.

Journal

  • Settings -> Journal -> Font: six handwriting faces (Caveat, Kalam, Patrick Hand, Shadows Into Light, Homemade Apple, Permanent Marker). Applies to entries in the Journal tab, Daily, Broadsheet and Share Day. Kalam is the default on new installs. Journal tab will slowly adapt to a more notebook look and feel.

Bottom day picker

  • A Today button now appears when needed left or right of date-browsing pill (when today is no longer visible).
  • Swiping around the browser doesn't change the date until you tap on it.
  • Holding a date opens the calendar right away, not on finger lift.
  • Go To Day, Reschedule and Move share a standard sheet, picker and day summary in one card.
  • Weekends are now more obvious in the day picker.
  • When you tap once to enlarge it to a week-view, swiping across weeks is easier.

Tabs and toolbars

  • Planner, Lists and Notes use a nicer title style.
  • All Tab icons are now more consistent shapes.
  • Daily toolbar: Add is promoted to the front, Assistant and the menu share the pill.

iPhone Duo

  • The day's heading moves into the navigation bar, and a toggle in the margin flips Agenda / Timeline.
  • Fresh installs open on the Daily + Timeline pair. With the pair off, Daily alone gets the two-column spread again.

Other

  • Day Review masthead cleaned up.
  • Daily page top background picks up a soft wash from the theme's landscape colours.
  • Sidebar: right-click (Mac) or long-press (iPad) a markdown folder or file for Rename / Remove.
  • Mac: New Notebook sheet matches the other naming cards.
  • Watch task checkboxes are rounded like the phone's.

Build 910 Sep 21 2026

This update is driven by the new iPhone Duo SDK, which could also mean some new problems for existing platforms (be prepared to roll back to an older beta :). Let me know how you find it.

(Build 910, fixed Dual Layout from showing up on regular iOS devices)

Daily + Timeline

  • In Layout, you can now "Include Timeline on wide screens".
  • The Timeline beside Daily now has the full Timeline's hour markings and thicker block bars.
  • On grained and landscape papers, Timeline blocks and Daily blocks look a bit nicer.

Drag and Drop

  • Drag a task from Daily onto the Timeline: untimed tasks get penciled in, timed ones get a new time, and tasks from other days come along.
  • Week strip days, Daily section headers and the empty Scheduled placeholder now accept drops.
  • Drop a task onto a task with subtasks, or between its expanded subtasks, to move it in. Undo in the toast puts it back where it was.
  • Broadsheet gets drag and drop, Scheduled and To Do accept drops, and To Do reorders by drag. This one fought me, so let me know if drops stop working after the first one.

Subtasks

  • Select a few tasks and pick Group as Subtasks from the Move menu. They gather under a new parent, named by Apple Intelligence from their titles ("New Group" where it isn't available).

iPad

  • Daily and Timeline get a compact floating day browser with three dates (iOS 26 and up). Swipe it to move, drop a task on a date, or hold a date for a calendar with what's on that day.
  • Every tab's floating pill now sits in the same bottom corner, with Today / Customize on the other side.
  • Wide Daybook pages can show the date as a heading on the page. Off by default, turn on "Date heading on the page" in Customize -> Layout.

Journal

  • On wide screens each day reads like an open book: the date, activity, route maps and photos on the left, entries on the right.
  • The input bar is gone. Use the new + in the toolbar, it opens the same composer and quick actions (on Mac it starts a new entry for today).
  • The navigation bar no longer paints over the paper.
  • Subtasks and undated list tasks no longer show up as journal entries on the day they were created.

Lists

  • The bookmarked-lists bar is retired for now.

iPhone Duo

  • First pass at layouts for the fold: two-column Daily, Weekly Spread with both pages, a Journal header that stays out of the crease, and the tab bar stays put when rotated.

Fixes

  • Score stopped counting completed reminders on 4.2.
  • A reminder's due time could drift when your device and the reminder were in different time zones.
  • Opening the task editor right after a Reminders change should be faster, though need more data if it's still not working.

Build 907, Sep 17 2026

Review feature is getting simplified and sharpened (I hope!). Thank you whon26, Becki, sam and Echobase for hammering through this, even I'm finding it useful! I'm sure it can get even better...

Day Review (was Review Today)

  • New layout for the Day on top, and now to the side on iPad/Mac.
  • Today / Tomorrow / Someday tabs are gone. The masthead title is the switch: tap the arrow next to Today to slide over to Tomorrow, and back. Normally you don't have to do this, as it's triggered by notifications. Someday tab is no longer here.
  • Task sources are now on/off pills: Outstanding, Undated, Someday, Markdown Tasks and Lists. Mix any of them, each task shows once, overdue first.
  • The Lists pill is split: left half toggles it, the chevron opens a checklist of every list.
  • Simplifying language to Someday, which takes on all previous names like Later or Snooze.
  • Reconsider option is gone.
  • The evening notification is now "Day Review: Give tomorrow a head start." and opens straight onto the Tomorrow page.

Themes

  • I also did some fun work: follow the day landscapes now track the real sun: it rises and sets behind the hills on your local sunrise and sunset.
  • At night the moon shows its actual phase and moves as well.

Fixes

  • Widget crash when completing a habit.
  • Sort completed to bottom now works in the Daybook, as it does on Broadsheet.
  • Keyboard dismisses on scroll instantly on iPhone, to speed things up.
  • Context menus no longer show Complete on rows that already have a checkbox. Timeline blocks keep it.

Build 906, Sep 15 2026

Small follow-up to 905, mostly Review.

Review Today

  • New All Incomplete source: Outstanding, Undated and Markdown tasks in one queue.
  • Excluded Lists was broken! It shows now, and hides itself when there's nothing to exclude.
  • Undated was also broken, now it's fixed: list tasks whose date isn't shown on the calendar, checklist items in notes, reminders with no due date, and undated markdown tasks. Subtasks, notes and journal entries no longer sneak in.
  • Scheduling a task from Undated gets a Put back in Undated action that restores where it was, with Undo.

Themes

  • Paper textures show through more clearly, and grain strength is tuned. Some are too much, some might be too little, will tweak as we go along :)

Build 905, Sep 14 2026

More work on Review page, I'm not done with it yet but taking small steps so we can talk about it better. And this version gets a new icon (gasp! don't worry, the old icon is still there in Settings) and some fun Theme improvements I'm playing around with.

Review Today

  • New Undated source: review reminders with no due date, from all Lists.
  • Currently picked review source is now remembered between sessions.
  • Exclude any list from the review, use the sort menu.
  • Reconsider menu is now called Snooze Review (wording was confusing, there's a lot of that). This just makes sure that you won't see that task in Review again until that date.
  • Choosing a day opens a proper calendar with a card of what's already on that day.
  • Sort and Swipe options joined together into the options menu, with Age (Oldest, Newest) on Someday and a days-old stamp on each row.
  • AI priorities (via Apple Intelligence) now enabled: flags HIGHEST/HIGH/LOW/LOWEST only when the task title is somewhat clear. Reassess from the same menu. Not sure how useful it is yet...

Markdown files

  • Subtasks are now supported in markdown files. Fold state is per device. A step with its own date or penciled time stays on its own day, with a pill naming its parent.
  • Now support Later and Someday features. Setting one aside writes an Obsidian Tasks 🆔 to the line (only then, never removed), so it syncs and survives edits. Lines sharing an id are flagged and can't be set aside until made unique.
  • Dependency support, Blocked-by: ⛔ dependencies dim the task, show a pill, sort last and skip Review. Completing the blocker unblocks right away.
  • ➕ ❌ 🏁 ⛔ no longer leak into titles, created date is read, and four-space vaults indent one level per step.
  • Penciled times on markdown tasks now sync between devices.

Habits

  • "Weekly, any day" now lets you choose how many days a week (1 to 7). The habit shows until the week's target is met, and streaks count weeks that reached it.
  • Monthly habits can repeat every N months.
  • Habits duration can now be edited.
  • Resize a habit block on the Timeline to change that day only.
  • Moving a habit to another day now postpones that occurrence instead of leaving it in place.

Themes

  • Some new options for Daily (only Daily for now), these are experiments so they may not survive the beta test! :)
  • Paper: pick a grain (Smooth, Speckle, Paper, Film) to give page texture.
  • Pick a landscape (Morning, Afternoon, Evening, or Follow the day). Saves with My themes, travels in the theme QR link.

Broadsheet

  • Headings now show properly in Tasks.
  • The now-ribbon follows the last row whose time has passed. The row in progress prints its time in an accent pill, and "next in 50m" counts to the next timed row.
  • Nicer weather strip, with a Color icons switch in Layout. You can now also turn Daybook weather strip grayscale.
  • Task titles now use the paper foreground color.
  • Past calendar events dim but are no longer struck through, on Daybook too.

Apple Watch

  • You can now quickly add today's note with your watch.
  • Existing notes dated to a day show in a Notes section after Habits.

Everywhere

  • Choose a day: the Reschedule menu, the selection bar's Move menu and the selection context menu open the same calendar sheet, with day's summary on it.
  • Outstanding sorts each day timed-first.
  • Fixed the bottom capsule bar (week strip, bookmarked lists, briefing player) riding up on the keyboard on iPad.
  • Fixed inline title edits not carrying into the task editor.
  • Native subtasks stay nested in Smart Lists.
  • Hear Summary: your own OpenAI key now lives in the Keychain, entered through a secure field.
  • New default app icon.

Build 904, Sep 12 2026

I've updated some data models in this build to keep Habits working smoother, so if you update one device to this version, try using it on all your devices.

Review Today

  • Someday holds only what you set aside with Later, it didn't make sense it included undated Reminders unless you added them there.
  • Sort the review list and the Someday shelf: Newest first, Oldest first, or Random. The sort button sits next to the swipe options on the review page, and next to the Someday heading.
  • Outstanding on Daily shows only while tasks are outstanding, and the "N tasks set aside" line now sits under that list rather than on its own. With nothing outstanding, reach Someday from the Review banner.
  • If you create calendar events for your timed tasks, they will no longer show up twice in Review.

Fixes

  • Habit completion tracking has been reworked to be more reliable in the future.
  • Habit history loads faster and only rebuilds the habits that changed.
  • Fixed a problem where Reminder time change wouldn't always sync with iOS Reminders.
  • With the Reminders section on, drag a reminder into Morning, Afternoon or Evening to give it a time.
  • On iOS 18, Lists now uses the same push navigation and iPad two-pane layout as iOS 26.
  • Retired the old theme families (from versions 1 and 2) and a pile of unused code. Your palettes, saved swatches, appearance and fonts are untouched. If anything looks off let me know.

Build 903, Sep 10 2026

More tweaks to how Review works, feedback very welcome!

Review Today

  • Review banner on Daily: on by default, with its own section in Layout for both Daybook and Broadsheet. It's separate from Outstanding, so keep either, both, or neither. Tap the X or swipe it away to hide it for today, back tomorrow. Turn its Layout section off to keep it hidden, or use Show again today in that section's options.
  • New Someday tab, each day page opens with the day's plan, then available tasks you can add to the day. Swipe right to add one to the day, left to send it to Someday. Rows already in Today's plan swipe right to Tomorrow; in Tomorrow's plan they swipe right to Pick a day. Left is Someday on both.
  • You can also review any list instead of Outstanding: a list task stays in its list when you give it a day. Markdown tasks get Pick a day instead of Someday, and dates and completions write back to the file.
  • Habits now show in the plan, check off today's occurrence, or Skip this day and Edit habit from the menu. Skips can be undone.
  • Someday tab: set-aside tasks plus reminders with no due date. Swipe right for Today, left to choose a date.
  • Reconsider: long press a task to have it come back for a decision tomorrow, next week, next month, or on a day you pick. Reconsidering doesn't schedule it; it just resurfaces it. Date pickers start on the last date you chose during this review.

Later, everywhere

  • Parking tasks is now Later, and parked indefinitely is Someday. Find Later in every task's menu, as a LATER button on the leading swipe on Daily, in the selection bar's Move menu, and as a Someday switch in the task editor. Bring back puts a task on its own day again, and so does giving it any day. Syncs across devices.
  • Outstanding shows "N tasks set aside" whenever any exist, review or no review. Tap it to open Someday directly, even with the banner dismissed.

Build 902, Sep 9 2026

Review Today

  • Choose what task swipes do: move to day, the day after, pick a day, park until tomorrow, park until next week, park indefinitely, or complete. Set them from the options menu next to To Review, or in Settings under Notifications.
  • Nicer swipes, one color per verb, and the card settles against the edge instead of flying off.
  • Now Parking replaces Skip for today and Review next week. Long press a task to park it until tomorrow, next week, next month, a day you pick, or indefinitely. A parked task keeps its date but leaves that day page, Outstanding, the counts, the widget and the watch until the review brings it back on the chosen day. Parked indefinitely, it waits in a collapsed Parked group at the bottom of the review, next to reminders with no due date. Wake, or give it any day, and it's back. You can still surface it in Search. Parking also syncs across devices!
  • A reminder parked indefinitely also loses its due date in Reminders.

Build 901, Sep 9 2026

First 4.2 beta introduces Method Kits: whole ways of planning you clip onto your setup, and take off as needed. Also new: Review Today for overdue tasks, penciled Timeline times that sync, a Continuous Yearly planner, a compact New Task line (in Options under Layout), and a pile of Daily polish. Private beta, so expect rough edges and please shout.

Method Kits (Layout editor, Kits board)

  • The Sets board is now Kits. You can now think of your Finalist configuration as a discbound notebook (My setup), which you can add or remove planning kits from the shelf below. Tap a kit to read what it changes against your current setup, then drag it onto the book or tap Use kit. Flip through the book to preview the pages.
  • Kits are samples: tweak away while one is on the desk, and Return to My setup brings your arrangement back, even after a restart. Like your version? Save as Kit keeps it in My Kits (your old saved Sets show up there too).
  • First proper kit is Just Do: Tasks and New Task only, no heading, tab bar gone on iPhone, timed tasks stay in the list with their time.

Review Today

  • See your Today (and Tomorrow), and all the overdue tasks: swipe right to bring it to today, swipe left to let it wait. Long press for Tomorrow, Done, Delete, Edit. Once in the list, you can swipe on it to punt to tomorrow or bring it back to overdue date.

Timeline

  • Penciled times, Plan My Day placements, habit placements and resized reminder durations now sync between devices. Accept, Reject and Undo work from whichever device you're holding.
  • Also, hold an empty spot on the grid to pencil a time in with a finger. Drag it to move, tap it to name it, Accept like any penciled time.

Planner

  • Continuous Yearly: a second Yearly layout under the Yearly card in the layout picker. Weeks run together with no break, month names down the right margin. Scrolling should be smoother in both Yearly styles.

New Task line

  • Compact New Task line, from the New Task options in the Layout editor: no bar under the field, so the line is one row. Tap the checkbox to step through kinds, swipe it to roll, long press for the full list. Choose which kinds are offered and whether Time shows.
  • The input sheet closes only from its X now, not from a stray tap or pull.

Daily

  • Deleting a task shows a popover with Go to Trash and Undo; restoring one shows Open and Undo.
  • Swipe left on any task row to select it. Broadsheet rows get the same swipes as Daybook (punt and edit on the right, select on the left). Habit days get Skip in their menu.
  • Simple task manager mode: with Daily as the only tab, the iPhone tab bar hides, Tasks goes headerless when it's the only band, hiding Scheduled files timed tasks under Tasks instead of dropping them, and if there's nothing showing in the right margin we're now using that space for list.
  • Layout editor redesigned; option popovers open above or below depending on available space. Better layout thumbnails.

Mac

  • Subtasks clicks respond better.
  • New Sub-notebook sheet is a proper prompt card.

Under the hood

  • Faster task saving, and refreshes keep flowing during iCloud sync.
  • Coming back to the app should feel snappier; more to do here.
  • Lots of improvements and optimizations across the board.
