Adding Tasks & Entries
Quick entry, the Plus sheet, task notes, natural language times, and voice capture.
Creating a task in Finalist should feel as natural as writing with a pen: write what needs doing, and you're done.
Quick entry
- Tap below your tasks and start typing. Your task appears instantly on the day you're viewing. A bar under the field switches between Task, Reminder, Event, and Heading and sets a time. You can trim that bar, or replace it with a picker on the checkbox itself, from the New Task options in Layout.
- Use the Plus button when you want more control. Its type pills can create a Task, Heading, Habit, Reminder, Event, Note, or Journal entry without making you visit that feature first. Choose a task list or notebook in the same sheet; journal entries use the selected date. The controls adapt to the type, so notes and journal entries stay writing-focused while scheduled work offers date and time choices. Events get an All Day switch right in the sheet, with a day count for spans up to a month; clear an event's time and the switch flips on by itself. Tap Set next to Time and the sheet picks the next whole hour (or the start of your day, once today is over), then shows Start and End rows so you can pick exactly when it finishes, or tap the length beside End to choose a common duration. The "In 2h" beside Start offers quick times: the next few slots when it's today, or the start of the day, afternoon, evening, and end of day on any other day.
Natural language times
Type the time right into the task: "Call Sarah at 2pm" or "Workout 7am". Finalist picks up the time and schedules it for you. Write like you think.
Task details
Tap any task to add notes, like scribbling details in the margin. Notes stay hidden until you need them, so your day page stays clean.
Headings
Tap and hold any task to turn it into a Heading. Headings act like section dividers within a day or a list.
Voice capture
Sometimes the best ideas come when your hands are full. Tap the microphone button in the top menu and speak your tasks. Finalist takes dictation while you think out loud, then pulls the tasks (or grocery items!) out of the rambling and adds them to your day. Requires a device that supports Apple Intelligence.
